What Is Teak?
Teak (Tectona grandis) is a tropical hardwood prized for centuries in fine furniture, shipbuilding, and architecture. It earns that reputation for one reason: it lasts. Natural oils make it resist moisture, rot, and insects without any added treatment. The grain runs tight and even, and the density gives it real weight in your hand. In a kitchen, those same properties make a cutting surface that holds up longer than almost anything else on the market.
Where Wooden Decor's Teak Comes From
We work with 100% solid South American teak, the same wood our family factory in Vietnam uses to build furniture. When a furniture piece gets shaped and cut, wood remains, too small for the next furniture piece, but exactly right for a board. We collect those pieces, sort them by grain, density, and character, and the best ones become Wooden Decor boards.
We don't compromise on the wood to make this work. We just find a second purpose for what's already there.
Is It Lower Quality?
No. Teak that's already been handled and shaped tends to hold its moisture content more steadily than freshly cut timber, so it resists warping better. The grain has settled. The density stays consistent. We check every piece by hand. If the grain or density falls short, it doesn't become a board.
Is It Food Safe?
Yes. Teak's natural oils resist bacteria and moisture, making it one of the safest woods for food prep. Every Wooden Decor board arrives finished and food-safe, ready to use straight out of the box.
